For women, one of the greatest challenges is to  be heard, especially in a patriarchal society.   According to a Washington Post report, two-thirds of President Obama’s aides were men when he became president. Many of the men worked for his campaign (before he became president)  which had made it even harder for women new to the staff, to work in higher positions in The White House.  Additionally, as more and more women made it onto the staff, they became part of the important conversations involved with the president. Also, in order to share their ideas and their opinions, all the women used a strategy called the “amplification strategy” so that they would be heard, not ignored. As women, they are sometimes overlooked, but the women on President Obama’s staff came up with a simple but effective strategy.

The “amplification strategy” which is where the women repeat each others’ ideas (crediting the speaker), which then forces the men to listen to their opinions/ideas.  In addition, the amplification strategy had paid off because soon President Obama began calling on the women on his staff to discuss more with them.  Lastly, Valerie Jarrett, the White House senior adviser, stated that in the end they got to state their ideas and opinions and were listened to more than when they first started working on President Obama’s staff.  In the end, to be heard as women, all it took was a few of them to make a big impact.
